CHOYA

When it comes to Umeshu, not all bottles are created equal. CHOYA has long been a leader in the Umeshu industry, setting the gold standard for quality, flavor, and craftsmanship. But what makes CHOYA’s Umeshu different from other brands? Let’s explore the key factors that set CHOYA apart.

More Ume, More Flavor

One of the biggest differences between CHOYA and other brands is the amount of Ume used. CHOYA’s Umeshu contains a higher concentration of Ume, which results in:

  • A naturally stronger, richer Ume flavor
  • A perfect balance of sweetness and acidity
  • A more authentic taste, without the need for artificial acidulants

Other brands may have inconsistencies in taste due to variations in their Ume content or may rely on acidulants to achieve a stable flavor.

Masterful Blending for Consistency

One of the biggest differences between CHOYA and other brands is the amount of Ume used. CHOYA’s Umeshu contains a higher concentration of Ume, which results in:

Why does this matter?

  • Having large-scale aging and blending capabilities ensures a consistent flavor profile in every bottle.
  • Other brands, with limited blending capacity, often struggle with flavor variations between batches or rely on additives to compensate.

With CHOYA, you can always expect the same high-quality Umeshu, no matter the bottle.

Umeshu vs. Sake-Based Umeshu & Plum Wine

Not all Umeshu is made the same way. There are three main types:

1. Umeshu (Traditional Style)

Authentic Umeshu is made with only Ume fruit, sugar, and spirits, without any artificial additives. More than 90% of CHOYA's Umeshu products are recognized as authentic Umeshu.
By steeping Ume in spirits, the natural flavors and aromas are fully extracted, resulting in a rich, deep, and well-balanced taste.

2. Sake-Based Umeshu

Some brands use Sake as a base for their Umeshu. Sake is not ideal for aging, which means the quality deteriorates faster over time.

3. Plum Wine

In some markets, Umeshu is labeled as Plum Wine, but wine-based Plum Wine has a distinct taste from traditional Umeshu. It tends to have a smoother texture and a lighter Ume flavor, whereas traditional Umeshu offers a richer, more robust taste with deeper Ume flavor.

While Sake-based Umeshu and Plum Wine have their own appeal, traditional Umeshu delivers a stronger Ume character, deeper complexity, and a truly authentic experience.

CHOYA’s commitment to high-quality ingredients, masterful blending, and traditional production methods ensures that every sip of CHOYA Umeshu delivers a true taste of Japan.

With more Ume, no artificial additives, and a focus on authenticity, CHOYA continues to be the gold standard for Umeshu, offering rich and well-balanced flavors with consistency in every bottle.
